Cameroon plans to import plate to fill production gap
(Business in Cameroon) – At the end of a recent consultation with the actors of lacquered products in Yaoundé, the Minister of Commerce (Mincommerce), Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, announced the provisional opening of the Cameroonian market to make up for the sheet metal deficit .
« Due to the incident at Alucam / Socatral, there is a gap between supply and demand, it is a question of temporarily opening up the markets, » said Mincommerce. The member of the government noted that there is currently an increase in prices: 1200 FCFA for 2-meter plates and 2300 FCFA for 3-meter plates. That is to say an increase of between 200 and 300 CFA, according to the National Brigade for the Control and Repression of Fraud.
For its part, the Cameroonian aluminum company (Alucam) justifies the situation by a fire in one of its units and the shock of the Covid-19 pandemic at the origin of certain deployment restrictions and the closure of factories. .
Other companies present at the consultation, they explain that the current rise in prices is not necessarily the result of speculation, but of the increase in international prices.
